Eucalyptus Psychology offers both psychological and psychiatric assessments, with the option of a genuinely multidisciplinary approach for presentations that are complex or where the full picture matters most.
The most accurate and helpful assessments are those that draw on multiple perspectives. Psychologists provide detailed observational and cognitive assessment, while psychiatry input may include clinical interviews, diagnostic formulation, and medical assessment. For straightforward presentations, a psychological assessment may be all that is needed. For more complex presentations, psychology and psychiatry input can be integrated into a single, coherent set of findings and recommendations.

Why an assessment can be helpful
Psychological assessments can help individuals and families better understand attention, learning, social communication, emotional regulation, and everyday functioning. They may be useful if you or your child:
- Experience ongoing attention, learning, or behavioural challenges and want to understand why
- Identify with traits of ADHD or autism and want a clear, evidence-based assessment in a supportive setting
- Need documentation to assist with school, work, or NDIS supports
- Want to understand strengths, challenges, and ways to use those strengths more effectively
Our assessments are thorough but collaborative. We take time to understand each person’s story and strengths — not just the test results — and provide clear, practical recommendations you can use.
Psychiatric Assessment
Dr Florence Morley, consultant psychiatrist at Eucalyptus, offers psychiatric assessments for adults aged 18 and over. Psychiatric assessments are particularly valuable when presentations are complex, when previous assessments have been unclear or incomplete, when multiple factors are at play, or when medication may be a relevant part of treatment.
Florence’s approach draws on detailed clinical interviewing, longitudinal history-taking — including collateral history from family members where appropriate — and careful diagnostic formulation. She does not rely on time-pressured checklists. Her aim is to understand the whole person, including the way that different diagnoses may interact, and to arrive at a formulation that genuinely guides care.
Psychiatric assessment is available for:
- Complex trauma and post-traumatic presentations
- Neurodevelopmental complexity (ADHD and ASD in adults), including cases where multiple factors interact
- Complex mood and anxiety disorders where diagnosis is unclear or treatment has not been effective
- Quasi-psychotic and psychotic phenomena arising from trauma, anxiety, or neurodevelopmental complexity (rather than primary psychotic disorders or tertiary mental health discharges)
- Personality disorder — diagnostic review and reformulation
- Second opinion and diagnostic review where a patient or their treating team would like a fresh perspective
Psychiatric Assessment Fees
Psychiatric assessments vary considerably in their scope, complexity, and length, which makes it hard to give a single upfront figure. The cost will depend on things like the nature of the referral question, how much background reading and preparation is involved, how many sessions are needed, and whether a formal written report is required.
As a general guide, Dr Morley’s initial assessment consultations range from $672 to $715, with Medicare rebating $262.10 of that if you have a valid GP referral, leaving an out-of-pocket cost of around $410 to $453. Follow-up sessions during an assessment range from $422 to $450 (with a rebate of $184.90, leaving around $237 to $265 out-of-pocket) or $299 to $320 for a shorter session (rebate $134.00, leaving around $165 to $186 out-of-pocket). These figures are estimates and may vary depending on the Medicare item number used.
For assessments that involve multiple sessions or a written report, Florence will discuss the likely total cost with you before you commit, so there are no surprises along the way. A GP referral is required to access Medicare rebates.

Psychological Assessments
Psychologists at Eucalyptus Psychology conduct comprehensive assessments for ADHD, ASD, combined ASD/ADHD presentations, and cognitive profile. Assessments are currently offered at the Mooroolbark clinic with minimal wait times, typically 2–4 weeks for an initial consultation.
Appointment Structure & Fees
Psychology assessments are offered under two pathways depending on your circumstances: the Standard Pathway and the Complex Neurodevelopmental Pathway. Please contact reception if you are unsure which applies to you.
The fees below are typical ranges. Individual psychologists at Eucalyptus may charge within these ranges, and your assigned psychologist will provide a detailed written quote before assessment commences.

Which pathway is right for me?
If your child or young person is under 25 and has been referred by a paediatrician or psychiatrist, the MBS 82000 pathway will generally offer more Medicare rebates. If you have a GP referral under a Mental Health Care Plan, or if you or your young person is over 25, the standard pathway applies. Multidisciplinary Assessments
For some presentations — particularly complex neurodevelopmental assessments involving ADHD, ASD, and other interacting factors — a combined psychological and psychiatric assessment offers the most complete picture. Typically, psychologists conduct detailed cognitive and behavioural testing, while psychiatrists provide clinical interviews, diagnostic formulation, and where relevant, medication recommendations.

Important Information
For clients eligible for the Complex Neurodevelopmental Pathway (MBS Item 82000): a rebate of $98.95 is available for the pre-assessment consultation, each testing session (up to 4 sessions across the client’s lifetime), and the feedback session. Total rebates available for a combined assessment are $395.80. Eligibility requires a referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist and the client must be under 25. Report writing is not eligible for rebates under this pathway.
For psychiatric assessments: Medicare rebates apply at the standard psychiatry rate with a valid GP or specialist referral. There is no session cap for psychiatric consultations. Please contact reception for fee information.
