ADHD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are neurodevelopmental differences that affect how a person thinks, processes information, relates to others, and experiences the world. They are often present together, and both frequently occur alongside other conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or sleep difficulties. Many adults and adolescents reach out after years of managing without understanding why things feel harder for them than they seem to for others, and for many people, a thorough assessment and clear formulation is genuinely life-changing.

Our approach

Both psychological and psychiatric assessments for neurodevelopmental presentations are available at Eucalyptus, and where presentations are complex, a combined approach is often most helpful. The psychologists at Eucalyptus conduct detailed cognitive and behavioural testing, while the psychiatrists contribute clinical interview, diagnostic formulation, and medical assessment for adults. The psychiatrists at Eucalyptus have a particular interest in neurodevelopmental complexity in adults and are experienced with presentations where ADHD, ASD, and other factors, including sensory differences, trauma history, and personality, interact.

It’s strongly preferred at Eucalyptus that ASD is at least screened for in ADHD assessments and vice versa. Presenting issues are rarely as simple as a single diagnosis, and getting the full picture matters enormously for treatment planning.

After diagnosis

A diagnosis is the beginning, not the end. Practitioners at Eucalyptus can provide ongoing psychological support, help you understand your results, develop practical strategies, and connect you with appropriate services including NDIS support where relevant. They can also assist with NDIS access reports and letters of support.
