The perinatal period, pregnancy and the first year after birth, is one of the most significant transitions in a person’s life. For many people it is also one of the most emotionally demanding. Perinatal mental health difficulties are common and can affect anyone, regardless of circumstances. They are not a sign of failure or weakness, and with the right support, most people make a full recovery.

How we can help

Psychological support for people navigating perinatal mental health difficulties is available at Eucalyptus. Psychologists at Eucalyptus provide evidence-based therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma, and adjustment concerns during and after pregnancy. Where presentations are more complex or where medication may be part of treatment, a referral to a psychiatrist may be appropriate. Please speak with your treating psychologist or GP to discuss whether this would be helpful in your situation.

The psychologists at Eucalyptus are experienced in supporting people who are pregnant or breastfeeding and take particular care around medication decisions in the perinatal period. Where appropriate, they work closely with your obstetrician, midwife, or GP to ensure your care is well coordinated.
