About Ben
Ben has worked in public mental health settings for a number of years and has experience supporting people experiencing a broad range of psychological difficulties and challenging life circumstances. He has a particular interest in suicide prevention and extensive experience working with people following a suicidal crisis. This work has shaped Ben’s appreciation of the importance of hope, genuine human connection, and helping people find a way forward during some of the most difficult periods of their lives.
Ben works with adolescents (12+) and adults from a range of backgrounds. He has experience supporting people with a broad range of concerns and life challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, panic, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma, relationship concerns, substance use and addiction, sleep problems, grief and loss, workplace stress, situational crises, life transitions, and low self-esteem. Ben also works with neurodivergent clients and aims to understand each person in the context of their individual strengths, experiences and needs.
Ben draws on a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Schema Therapy. Therapy may involve exploring past experiences and recognising patterns that are contributing to difficulties in the present, as well as developing practical ways of responding differently to difficult thoughts, emotions, and situations.
At the heart of Ben’s approach is a sense of hope. He believes that even when things have been extremely difficult, or someone has felt stuck for a long time, meaningful change remains possible. Therapy can provide an opportunity to better understand what has been happening, consider what matters moving forward, and begin taking steps in that direction.
“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.” Carl Rogers
Ben believes that no matter where we find ourselves, we can always change direction.
Outside of psychology, Ben enjoys spending time with his family and being a dad. He has a strong interest in sport, science and the natural world.
