About Dr Kelly Buttigieg
She offers her services to adults and older adults for a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma (particularly single episode trauma), adjustment to life transitions, perfectionism, low self-esteem, grief and loss. She also has a special interest where mind and body meet, in the psychological adjustment to health challenges. Kelly is highly experienced in supporting clients with heart conditions, cancer (psycho-oncology), neurological events such as stroke, post-viral illnesses such as long Covid, weight management and trauma related to medical events.
Kelly provides a tailored approach to each client, drawing primarily from cognitive-behavioural therapy (including cognitive reprocessing therapy, graded exposure therapy, motivational interviewing and solution-focused therapy), acceptance and commitment therapy, compassion-focused therapies and other mindfulness-based approaches.
Kelly is passionate about sharing the benefits of therapy widely so that individuals from a range of backgrounds and lived experiences may experience comfort, hope and improved wellbeing by receiving the right care at the right time.
Background
Kelly holds Bachelor degrees in Arts and Science from the University of Melbourne, including Honours in Psychology. She went on to complete a Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology at Monash University.
She is registered as a clinical and health psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA). Kelly is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, and a fellow of their clinical and health colleges. She is a member of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science.
Kelly has worked at a senior level in public mental health at Imperial College London and Oxford University Hospitals. She has provided teaching for institutions such as King’s College London’s Health Psychology Section, training hundreds of psychologists and IAPT therapists working with clients with health conditions. Kelly has also contributed to service development and research in clinical and health psychology. Alongside her private practice, she is employed in a senior role at a hospital network in Melbourne’s Dandenong Ranges and surrounds.
Kelly is also committed to supporting the development of early to mid-career psychologists, and can offer supervision to Victorian-based psychologists seeking supervision in the modalities mentioned above. Kelly is a board-approved supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia.
